AT L/5/S1 RIGHT SIDE DISC?
I HAD AN MRI HERE IS WHAT IT SAID ANY HELP WITH WHAT IT ALL MEANS?
ALSO CAN THIS CAUSE THE SEVERE PAIN IN MY NECK AND SHOULDERS THAT JUST HAPPENED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO?
There is loss of signal intensity of the intervertebral discs at L3/L4 and L4/L5 and to the lesser degree at L5/S1. At L5/S1 there is a rightsided disc herniation with an extruded fragment extending inferiorly. There is narrowing of the right lateral recess and posterior displacement of the right S1 nerve root.
L3/L4 shows evidence of a rigth peracentral disc protrution deforming the ventral aspect of the thecal sac with out significant lateral recess narrowing or foraminal narrowing.

I have been having back /leg pain and now its in my neck also. I can hardly sleep or even drive it hurts so bad as does sitting in the computer chair typing. Sititng or laying it hurts constant.
First of all, I am not a Dr., and cannot
give medical advice.
I have received many MRIs, and have
a little understanding of what that
meant in my case.

Disks are the shock absorbers for
your spine. L5 is the lowest lumbar
vertebral bone in your spine, and is
just above S1,the highest bone in
the sacral body, a group of bones
at the lowest part of your back, above
and between your buttocks.
L3/L4 are the vertebrae approximately
located in the deepest part of the curve
in your lower back. Loss of signal means
the bulging disks and spinal misalignment
have compromised your nervous system,
and has begun to turn off your ability to
walk and feel pain. Hard to believe, given
my experience, but the pain could be worse.
I am NOT recommending a chiropractor. The
wrong adjustment could cripple you, but
if your DR. recommends a very good one,
it might be worth considering.
This disk between them is sort of like
a rubber donut, allowing great movement
in the back, including twisting, turning,
flexing and bending. Or rather, in this case,
formerly enabled this function.
When a disk fails, the bones are allowed
to rub against one another, causing
significant pain and a loss of range of
motion.
More significantly, there are many
nerves exiting the spinal cord at
various places. The Iliac nerve is
in this area, and runs down the leg.
Among the signals from the bulging
disk, rubbing bones, and iliac nerve
signals, a LOT a pain is to be expected, but
you probably already knew that.
Additionally, attempting to adjust
posture and gait MAY cause the neck pain,
due to trying to hold the head in
a position that will reduce discomfort.
The back has four major bone
structures. From the base of the
spine going up, You should have
the sacral body, lumbar vertebrae,
thoracic vertebrae, and cervical vertebrae.
The neck is is the area of the cervical
spine, midback is thoracic, lumbar is the
lower back, and sacral body is the shield
shaped mass terminating the back, and includes
the coccyx, or tailbone.

APPROVAL BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS.
I would lay flat on my back, with no
pillows under my head, and nine
pillows under my knees and ankles.
Nine pillows were appropriate for my
size, and the size of the pillows.
The objective was to be flat on
my back, with my femurs almost
at a right angle to my back and
calves. This took the pressure
off my disks, and allowed the bones,
nerves and muscles to rest, and not
be inflamed. I finally got serious
release and relief when I started
putting ice bags under my back
ever 40 minutes while in this position.
In my case, a heating pad made my
pain worse, but I was willing to try
anything. The ice was very uncomfortable
at first, but when it worked, the release
seemed like bliss.
Of course you Dr. is the best source
of medical advice, but I found a
combination of Anti Inflammatories,
muscle relaxers and serious narcotics
helped me live long enough to get
release from excruciating pain, Now,
some Drs. also would prescribe Anti
Anxiety meds in concert with the others.
Be careful with Anti Inflammatories
like Ibuprofen
simply because you can buy them OTC
in bottles of 500. Large amounts over
time can ruin your stomach and kidneys.

What does it mean? Probably surgery.
That little donut at the base of your
back(the actual spine meets the sacral
body just below the beltline) has
failed, and needs attention while
you can stilll walk. If you ever feel
line someone has poured burning oil
inside your lower back, that means the
disk has ruptured, and it is time to
relax and do nothing until you speak
with your Dr.
The neck pain is possibly
Caused by adjusting your body to try to get comfortable, but, you may
Have Degenerative Disk Disease, and the problem
Is manifesting in other places.
Yes, people talk about alternatives
to back surgery because it is intimidating
to the patient. Do not accept any
alternative treatments from me or
anyone else that does not have
liability coverage.
Your Dr. should have several
advantages over anyone on the
web: Specialised Knowledge, familiarity with
your case, and access to hospital
and surgical facilities, and a
prescription pad.
